Not having a house of our own did not stop us from throwing another successful Pumpkin Carving Party. We hijacked the brother-in-law's place while he was out of town, and after doing his dishes, and chopping my ingredients for the chili, I felt right at home. Then, I discovered the Oktoberfest beer in the fridge and cable TV, and I didn't want to leave.
The chili turned out well. Some have deemed it my best ever. But of course, most of the participants were there for the carving competition, not the food. So, as I sat around watching my cable with a friend, the others carved. At the end, I was brought in for the judging.
It was rather easy. Our friend carved a self-portrait of himself that no one thought he could pull off. But, he did. And it was pretty awesome (he's the one in the picture at top, and the resemblance is unquestionable.) I was impressed, and he was awarded first place.
I did give out two other awards. The cutest pumpkin went to the husband, who carved another owl for me. I like the owls.
The most photogenic award went to our other friend, who carved a scary jack-o-lantern. I liked his jagged teeth. And I could not take a bad picture of this pumpkin. There were others too, but they showed up late and I was asleep by then. So no awards for them!
In the end, we were left with a lot of pumpkin seeds, which we roasted and enjoyed throughout the week.
Up next: Our first meal at the new house! Oh yes, we bought a house.
