Crock-Pot Cabbage and Stove-Top Brats

The last several weeks have been busy and tiring. So tiring in fact, I've had little desire to cook or dream of domestic chores, such as washing my curtains. The curtains in our bedroom need a washing.

What's better than not cooking? Going out. But we've been too poor for that, so the next best thing is the crock-pot! It cooks things for you, so you can come home to that strange crock-pot smell. To be honest, this meal was only partially cooked in the crock-pot. In the morning, I placed my cut up vegetables, cabbage, carrots, celery and potatoes, along with a can of beer in my slow cooker. I also added a spice packet of mustard seeds, coriander, juniper berries, cloves and peppercorns.  The bratwurst sausages (the last remaining from Oktoberfest), I steamed later, in the crock-pot juices. Then, I seared everything in a very hot cast iron pan, veggies and sausages. A quick and satisfying meal.
